Some new, cool video was released which was too cool to not talk about:https://twitter.com/SpaceX/status/1146546495241371649

Thanks to Jack Beyer for letting me include some of his images of the recovered fairing being handled in port:

Love the shirt Scott!
Meme-ception!! Hullo!
I think I could convert a pair fo fairings into a nice house conversion 😄
I’m pretty sure the idea is Mr.Tree will catch one, then the crew will somehow move it to the deck and then Space X will control the entry of the second fairing for capture by Mr. Tree as well.
Wow… Your fairly close (yeah I Doo know how to say ‘close’ in Scottish… Worked in Dunfirmline) to me. I’m in the mid Lower (Yup, know how to say ‘low’ in Scottish as well) parts of Sweden= Europe is kinda small-ish.
The again, Earth is small-ish like.
The mechanical separation systems give you much more range adjustment in ejection force. They’re heavier, but if you are recovering it anyway to re-use that doesn’t matter. Plus it’s a selling point: no chance of explosively ejected debris damaging delicate payloads
Does the oxon layer get affected by the ionising?
Scott, why u so awesome all the time??!
SpaceX keeps getting better and better. 😆
I doubt the removal of the IR filter would be desired. Heat effect could more readily be ascertained by FLIR type imaging. What they seek is multifaceted and plasma effects are poorly ascertained in IR.
you’ve got some kind of weird keratin growth going on on your scalp, might want to get that looked at.
Sweet phenomenauts shirt, Scott!
I feel like a second recovery boat would just create a collision hazard.
He refrenced the meme!
Yes!
0:15- now somebody do that meme for Isaac Arthur!
Are you on the planet Barcelona?
If only KSP let you recover space debris more easily.
Of course, to pronounce it in the native tongue (Castilian), it’s Bar Tha’ lona.
Isn’t the sound deadening actually there so the Kerbals can have a conversation while waiting to fly the fairings back?
there’s barely any difference in the audio.
I understand the purpose of the reaction control system, to maneuver the fairing for a stable re-entry and to remain within the predicted recovery window.
I haven’t poked around, just wondering aloud whether it is steerable after the re-entry phase, or if it’s just free-gliding and the recovery craft have to intercept it.
i liked the informal way you did this vid .,.. and showed us your mind in action realtime
Hey, crazy idea, could you ride one of the fairings from space and survive?
We are a space “fairing” world, after all.
Thanks for the video.
SpaceX did what Scott Manley couldn’t. Never forget the nuclear thermal rocket insterstage fairings.
Wow, hah, the moment I saw “Barcelona” I was hearing Freddy, but on the layered chorus.
Greetings to all. that incredible light / plasma. what a fantastic shoot.
Fun fact: it is impossible for two men to row from Llorett Del Mar (spelling?) to Barcelona in a dinghy with only one case of beer for the journey.
Fun fact #2: Taking the oars with you to the liquor retail establishment will not entail that no one steals the boat you dragged up on to the beach.
25 seconds in and this video already deserves a like
Loved the quick shot/pic of the raptor!
Hair on head. Not a good look🤣🤣🤣🇦🇺👍🖖
It seems as if a vortex is being created. The arrangement of the holes perhaps is implicative at least partially. The said holes could create a MHD effect. It would be fascinating to see if they could use MHD for velocity modulation. It would not surprise me if they were doing so.
I am not the only one who does the Scott Manley voice meme.
Your taste in music is flawless!!
the only thing I loved the most was the meme!
you arn’t the only one that hears Mr. Mercury
Go to Restaurant Caracoles – it’s a brilliant experience!! Las Ramblas heading down towards the sea, and it’s on your left about 2/3 way down.
Thanks for another video! Greetings from Barcelona
Where I can get this music? It would be perfect as my ringtone
At the cover you showed up some ionised gas, which I thought to be a video about fusion reactors…
know what cracks me up? If the fairing was an archaeological find, I wonder what the scientists would have deduced by finding it. ESPECIALLY if those scientists were not of this planet.
I say ‘Hullo’ to people in hopes that some day someone will go: “You watch Scott Manley too?!”
Omg scott i luv ur videos and you
Omg YES. I always hear Freddy too 😂
just casually growing una moustashe
Going “native” there in Barcelona Scott? 😂
Remember that day we were surprised because memes became self-concious?
“But whatever” — Scott Manley, man of Science
I love how you see the rocket motor passing by
You should shave your head to have the iconic look again
Amazing footage! Would not have expected that
Great. Now you’ve got it stuck in MY head too.
BARCELONAAAA!!!!!
XD
👍 Thanks Scott, very informative 👍
So freaking cool and beautiful! I love fluid dynamics <3
Hope you get some sleep soon 🙊
Thanks for the nice video.
I was under the impression that’s how Barcelona was said, am I mistaken?
Im so privileged to be alive in 2019 such amazing things we are doing.
…they’re speed holes; they make it go faster.
Dear Scott,
great video again
Pls tell me, whats that awsome Song in your outro???
What totally awesome space stuff going on! 😁👍 Thanks for the great video Scott 😎🚀
Great video, thanks 👌
I’m really interested in seeing a reentry video from the dragon capsule, even better would be one of your videos giving cometary of the event. If it’s possible please try make a video of this 🙏
Same here, Scott!
“Barcelona” to me also brings up Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe singing “Barcelona” – great song!
nice, this is great
keep sharing them =D
Tq
I think that ionised nitrogen and oxygen glow blue.
Like lightning.
Things KSP doesn’t teach you: “Farings: not just disposable covers you throw away without a care in the world”
I always remember Barcelona 92 as well
Interesting intro! But I will miss your classical iconic X-wing.
They should have active parachute control and one faring falling faster than the other. Then they could catch both with one ship!
You can get much better audio if you just use the headset that came with your phone as a lav mic.
I’m in the Balearic Islands. This is probably the closest I’ve ever been to Scott Manley and I feel honoured.
I have to say, that is an amazing entry video. It was worth it even if the fairing didn’t hit the net.
I just realized something; this is just like their booster landings. The first attempts were failures and laughed at, then, once they got it dialed in, it became routine, nay, expected, that the first stage would end up safely back on land or on a droneship. They still have a few kinks to work out with the higher energy falcon heavy centre core, but they’ll have that sorted fairly quick.
finally some re-entry video clips.there isn’t many out there. no idea why.
I love the plasma glow
Fairings: “We are just fairings, we are meant to be expendable”
Elon Musk: “Not to me”
The bottom line is all that matters. I’m not Scott Manley. Fly for profit
We ask you to seek to establish satellites dedicated only to test the expectations of inflation theory of the Russian physicist Andrei Lindy
The theory of eternal inflation predicted gravitational waves as well as waves of density
We need to launch new satellites in space
These advanced devices must be created to detect the expectations of inflation theory in the universe 14 billion years ago
We need advanced technology
Special devices must be invented in the discovery of predictions of the theory of the bloated universes of Russian physicist Andrei Linde
Wow. The falling fairing ionization looks better than most Warp Speed effects
Great Video:-) Next time: put the microphone to your right
xD
If those depressurising holes were sealed and you were strapped to the inside of this while it was re-entering, would you be able to survive the heat?
Thanks for the vids Scott. Hope you’re getting some holiday time there as well.
Judging by the thumbnail I thought I was looking inside at a fusion reactor, wow.
As for the wing being turned by 90°: I think the airflow over the fairing is more stable like that; less swinging left and right of the “payload”
Scott how do you manage to remember all this data. Bless you! Big respect!!
Could you sit on it and ride it like an express elevator to hell?
The only other company I know that is this open with their products is Mercedes F1. I mean, nobody else in the space industry gives you this much access to very sensitive if not secret product technology👍
I really enjoy your provide background details on matters pertaining to the space program(s) and the universe. Thanks for all your efforts and excellent videos.
Welcome to spain try some food like migas con huevo or something like that and enjoy 😀👍
Imagine, Starman riding that like a giant surfboard…
I totally thought you were going to go with “Manuel” when talking about Barcelona
Purple plasma could be the argon layer in the upper atmosphere, blue being nitrogen.
I read Barcelona with David Tennant’s voice
“I’ve been ionized, but I’m okay now.”
I didn’t really think too much about fairings till now. I kinda assumed they were little more than a boring protective shell with nothing more in it.
Looks like i was damn wrong about that. More complex than i thought, seeing those pictures.
The 90° change might be to reduce the impact force when hitting the net. It would greatly increase the surface area from just the nose hitting first to the full width of the nose cone.
I freaked out with nerdish excitement when I saw it posted by SpaceX. I was surprised at how bright the plasma was, I completely didn’t consider that it might have been IR seen by the camera.
Never stop posting, we’re all learning.
“A fair clip” brought me back to my Dad speeding in his Cortina.
When I hear the name “Barcelona,” I hear it in the voice of Sybil Fawlty. “You’ll have to excuse him, he’s from Barcelona.”
When I hear the name “Scott Manley,” I wonder how often he’s been introduced as the “manly Scot.”
SpaceX has taken recycling to a new level. Thanks for the vid.
I thought the first copy was fine but appreciate you going through the extra effort. Thank you for giving us all these updates while you’ve been traveling.
When Elon sees 6 million bucks laying there he says “lets go get it”
If you were in that faring you would see the glow of the ionized gas….. The only think you would see is your short life flashing before you as you experience what a burrito feels like when over done in a microwave oven if said oven was travelling at Mach 9.23. The strange goo was feeling quite at home though.
