How SpaceX & NASA Keeps Astronauts Safe During Launch

Click any button for sharing!

Wednesday’s launch was aborted for safety reasons related to the weather, these launch rules apply to every rocket regardless of whether they have a crew or not. However there were extra measures taken which are specific to crewed launches and it’s worth discussing some of these while we wait for the weekend.

Here’s a couple of articles on the Abort Modes:

  14. Jason Beers

Every time I see the pad ninjas I keep expecting slipknot to come screaming in with a new song

  15. MrJackHackney

When I saw the pad support team I also thought they looked like Ninjas. I bet Pad Ninjas will catch on in future SpaceX webcasts!

  16. Maico

I’d need to pee in only the 3hours they waited inside Dragon2 during the lift-off preps :) Do they just pee in a diaper ?

  17. Fred Pauling

I love that you always bring a fresh angle to space.

  18. Mitja Rihtarsic

“Fly safe” are just the right words at the moment.

  19. Anonymous Freak

It’s amazing to think that 10 seconds are the difference between landing off the coast of North America and landing off the cost of Europe…

  20. LurchTheBastard

You say “Pad Ninjas”, several of my friends were saying “Imperial Navy Crewmembers”. Like seriously, they wouldn’t look that out of place aboard the Death Star.

  21. USSR Bot

Sorry I missed your stream I was watching it on TV wile playing KSP.

  22. Wayne Harrison

    A very appropriate remark/tag. “FLY SAFE”!! 🖖🏻

Is it bad to wish for an abort where they have to land in Europe, right in my backyard? 🤔

Maybe I can claim the capsule 🧐

  40. Cooper Allen

dad bods has me dying 😂

  41. Coldpsyker

Thank you for the explanation! I saw on Twitter the Irish Coast Guard said they were on standby for this mission and I was like “huh?”

  42. MajorHayze

I’ve never seen that draco thruster test before, that’s pretty cool how quickly they can fire! :)

  43. Burnt Pancakes and Crummy

The two astronauts look like crew members from Fireball XL5.

  44. Chris Holt

  60. Art of Zazoreal

Remember that time when a Saturn V was hit by lightning twice and still gave the thunder a middle finger…..Such a badass rocket. Sure the rocket had some problems after but come on they still made orbit.

  61. wedge_one

fly safe indeed. and the coverage was amazing.

  62. coconinoco

“not the same shape as the mannequin” — I know the feeling!

  68. Hastelloy X

I watched the whole broadcast and it was awesome!
I was slightly let down by the weather, but I’m also upbeat because the next launch window is Saturday.
And I’m really happy the crew is safe to launch another day!

  69. Reto Kaderli

    Go SpaceX pad ninjas ✌🏻

  70. heatshield

I expect to see @SpaceXNinja12 signing in any time now.

  71. Apothecary Terry

8:54 Space Sex Space Suits. I’m sure I’m just being really slow in hearing that and Elon named the company precisely for that reason…

  72. wilppuse

Hey Scott, I miss your great picks for space games. It feels like this has become mostly a news channel. That’s okay too.

  73. Art of Zazoreal

    Love those Pad Ninjas!

  74. Mr. Fox

Knowing Elon Musk, he is probably already working on the next version of those pressure suits😄

  75. Massimo

You know besides the obvious connection with the outfits calling them ninjas I think it’s apt in that they are there in the background protecting and assisting the astronauts ensuring their safety and the safety of the mission.

Also I really really hope SpaceX will release a version of those outfits for the public they are really neat

  76. S W A M I 스와 미

If “Pad Ninja”, or the equally cool “Number Ninja” some have put forth, doesn’t become an actual title I will be greatly disappointed in SpaceX and NASA

  95. Speedyghost1000

Those astronauts are like jeb and bob being launched on a rocket with 24 solid rockets and no parachute then me feeling bad and allowing them to go back to the vab

  96. L Dewey

….hard to look cool when you’re being out-classed by a squadron of elite SpaceX Ninja service crew… LoL!
